Istanbul is very easy to reach by non-stop flights using major airlines from European and US cities. There are two international airports in Istanbul. Ataturk International Aiport (on the European side of Istanbul) and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (on the Asian side of Istanbul). ICTSS 2013 will be held in Taksim area (which is on the European side of the city and closer to Ataturk International Airport) but you may be able to find cheaper flights (especially from European cities) to Sabiha Gokcen International Airport. Below you can find information on how to get to Taksim area from these airports.

Foreigners travelling to Turkey will need passports and for many countries visas to enter Turkey. The most up-to-date visa information can be obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs web site.

  • Ordinary passport holders of most countries may obtain a visa online by visiting electronic Visa application.
  • In case you wish to obtain a visa through a Turkish consulate, you are advised to apply early to allow sufficient processing time of your visa application.
  • In case you need a conference invitation letter for your visa application, please ask for invitation letter during the registration.

Local Travel:

From Ataturk International Airport to Taksim:

  • By Airport Bus
You can take Havatas Airport Buses from Ataturk International Airport to Taksim Square. The airport buses depart the arrivals of both the International and Domestic terminals at Atatürk Airport. The Taksim bus stop is just north of Taksim Square on the east side of Cumhuriyet Caddesi, next to Metropolitan Art Gallery. The trip takes approximately 40 minutes, depending on the traffic, and costs 10 TL (VAT Included) per person, one-way, payable on the bus in cash. You can find the schedule of Havatas shuttle services from Ataturk International Airport to Taksim at Havatas website. These busses provide a convenient and a cheap alternative.
  • By Taxi
Taxis are available around the clock and charge a standard, metered rate. There is no flat rate scheme in effect from either Istanbul airport to any region of the city. Depending on traffic, expect to pay about 50-60 TL. The trip takes approximately 40 minutes, again depending on traffic. It is not customary to tip cab drivers in Turkey. Taking a cab is the most convenient alternative but it will be more expensive compared to Havatas alternative given above.
  • By Metro, Tram & Funicular
Metro system operates from Ataturk International Airport, but it requires several connections to reach Taksim. You can take the Metro right from the Ataturk International Airport terminal to Aksaray. In Aksaray you can transfer to the tram, which operates via Sultanahmet to Kabatas, from which you can transfer to the funicular running to Taksim.  Assuming that you will have luggages, this alternative is not very convenient due to connections.
  • By City Bus
IETT express city bus 96T departs Ataturk International Airport and travels along the shore of the Sea of Marmara stopping at the  Yenikapı Fast Ferry Terminal and Aksaray Square on its way to Taksim Square. This is among the most inexpensive ways to go, but also the slowest and least convenient.

From Sabiha Gokcen International Airport to Taksim:

  • By Airport Bus
HAVATAS operates regular shuttle bus service between Sabiha Gokcen International Airport and Taksim Square every 30 minutes from 03:30 to 01:00 hours for 13 TL (VAT included) per passenger. The bus makes several scheduled stops en route and the trip to Taksim takes approximately 90 minutes, depending on traffic. Buses drop off and pick up passengers in front of the Turkish Airlines office across Taksim Square from Istiklal Caddesi. You can find the schedule of Havatas shuttle services from Sabiha Gokcen International Airport to Taksim at Havatas website.

  • By Taxi
Taxis are available outside the terminal. The trip to Taksim costs approximately 90 TL and takes approximately 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
